Today was the "witching hour" ALL DAY at the school I work at today. From what I gathered, I was school wide, not just my students. I was within seconds of sending nearly 1/2 of my entire first block class to the principals today. We started our last unit on Population and they just would not shut up! I'm sorry, but I just expect more out of 15-18 year old kids than to sit and purposely talk to their friends and ignore me while I am lecturing. They then have the gall to get defensive when I call them on there behavior. "What am I doing?" Sometimes I think they seriously see nothing wrong with this! Later in the day, I had a young lady, and I use this word loosely, storm into my study hall hour, accusing my entire class of taking her "f***ing phone, and somebody had better G** Dam* give it back. I f***ing left it on the shelf in the f***ing bathroom. " I couldn't believe it. I told her to knock off the profanity and to get out of my classroom. "Whatever" she said. I notified the principal and later found out she was doing this all over the school in her search for her cell phone. The ironic thing, cell phones aren't allowed in the building during school hours. Give you one guess what the percentage of students who ignore that rule is. This would have gotten a student suspended in my day. Now they probably won't even get a second look, much less any disciplinary action. Oh, she might get a day in ISS, just so she can sleep and not go to class. Oh, that works! I implore anyone who is reading this and has kids. Please teach them respect and courtesy. Many of these kids are pretty good kids overall, but as they say, a few bad apples spoil the cart, and there is alot of bad apples around these days. These kids have everything. They don't know how to be responsible for their own actions, and don't receive any discipline at home. This comes with them to the school, and we teachers have to deal with these attitudes, as well as the "good" students who must endure this kind of behavior too. These are your children, and if this trend continues, we are going to raise an entire generation of entitled, spoiled brats, who respect nothing or no one and know no boundaries. It's sad, but I know it is nationwide. This is not limited to my town. It's happenings in the priveledged areas as well the poor. If anything, the priveledge kids are worse. They think they don't have to work for anything. This young lady, I'm told comes from a "nice" middle class family and yet she is out of control. If I have offended anyone with this post, I apologize in advance, however, this is a problem that cannot be ignored. If some of these parents could see on a daily basis how their kids behave at school, they would be horrified. I just hope that the measures we are taking with our kids pay off. I have been told they are good kids at school. I hope it stays that way
