Pic: Kida and me after our jog this morning.
Since the heat broke last week, I have been making it a point to take our dog for a good walk every day. I really enjoy walking through our neighborhood. Over the last few days, I have been picking up the pace a little and have found myself actually jogging. I hook Kida's leash to my belt and we take off. Not a real run type jog, but a good 5 mph jog. I was never able to take in real cardiovascular exercise as a kid because I suffered from juvenile asthma. I excelled at softball, and just about any type of sport, unless it required massive amounts of running. As a result, I worked out with weights and became very strong. I also suffered from a knee injury that often leaves me hobbling if I twinge it just right. After I married, I got my first "desk" job and put on weight. Two children later, I realized I was cursed with the genes that make many women in my family over weight. Here we are, 15 years later and I somehow outgrew the asthma in my early 20's. I can walk, jog, swim, etc. and barely get out of breath. This even with carrying the extra weight I am currently carrying. With fall and the cooler weather coming, I am making a pledge to walk, and or jog every day. I have a nice route right now I have measured to be nearly a mile. I want to gradually add to that as I hopefully drop weight and my physical conditioning improves. I have to be careful though, Kida loves these outings as much as I do, and she is feeling her nearly 9 years. I'll have to work it out so we can continue doing this together. I wasn't able to do this as a kid, but at 36 years old, I have to wonder if it's too late. I don't think so, but only time will tell.
