Well, not us, literally. Tomorrow is the opening ceremonies for the Summer Olympic games in Beijing, China. We kinda kicked off our "China obsession" this week watching several shows on the Discovery and Travel channel about China. Our son is fascinated by the entire culture. He has insisted we learn about the Great Wall, Shanghai, and the Forbidden City. Last night we even took in the new movie, "The Mummy, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor". This was another fun action packed film in Brendan Frasers "The Mummy" franchise. The kids favorite were the Yeti that came to the O'Connell families rescue while they were in the Himilayas. Anyway, we get almost three weeks of the summer games including swimming, gymnastics, track and field and of course our daughters favorite, Volleyball. Will Michael Phelps win a record 8 gold medals? Will Dana Torres, at 41 years old, win a medal. Will our basketball teams win another Gold after only faring Bronze in Athens? I guess we will wait and see. In the mean time, we have plans to watch every night until the closing ceremonies. China is a land full of tradition and history. Maybe these Olympics will promote a cultural understanding that until now, has been mostly a closely guarded secret. We can only hope.
