As I reflect on this weekend, I find myself pondering everything. I count my blessings, as well as reflect on some unfortunate events.
Counting my Blessings
1. Enjoying Friday evening free of drama. We stayed home, made a nice dinner, ate together, and relaxed.
2. On Saturday, I worked again at our church as we continue to prepare for the construction of the new childrens/youth education wing. I am learning so much about renovation and construction from these guys. Hand me a power tool and let me go!
3. On Saturday evening, we attended the annual St. Mary's Grade School Extravaganza. This is our son's school's biggest fundraiser. We had a great dinner, bought chances for prizes, and donated for a new Smoke/Emergency alarm and notification system. In a matter of minutes, the live auction netted nearly $12,000 dollars of donations for this need. When we got home, the house was in tact, and the babysitter said the kids were great!
4. Football season is back! S (my husband), is not so grumpy anymore. His Broncos are back in action, and he has it all to watch on his 50" plasma HDTV!
5. Another great morning at church. I love our new pastor. Unfortunately, he is only our interim. He will only be with us for a year or so as we search for a new pastor, but for now, I am going to enjoy his leadership.
Some Unfortunate Events
1. My husbands sister and step-mother moved his father into an Alzheimer's unit in Colorado. This is a wonderful place, but it still isn't home. We pray he is happy there and makes some new friends.
2. My Grandmother is in the hospital and it looks like she needs a pacemaker.
3. Our neighbors husband passed away overnight. He also suffered from Alheimer's and developed pneumonia last week. She is sad of course, but is a woman of strong faith and is at peace. I watched as my daughter went over to see her and her family, and she was so caring and mature. She played with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She once again showed me a glimpse of the young woman she is becoming, and I couldn't be prouder.
4. My brother-in-laws nephew leaves for Iraq this week. He is in the Air Force and will be training Iraqi policeman in security services. He was home this weekend to see the family, and having known this young man for the last 10 years, I know he will make his family proud and serve our country well. We pray for his safe deployment.
5. Wichita received nearly 10 inches of rain in the last 72 hours. Some of our friends there are dealing with the fallout from this.
Our days are filled with blessings and disappointments. We rejoice in the blessings and deal with the disappointments as best we can. Life, no matter how old we become, continues to challenge us, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
On the road again....
