A fish out of water, or not!?!

I finally went back to work today. I got called in for a math teacher at my alma mater high school. Not just any math, no sir, advanced algebra and AP statistics. I was a fish out of water. I hated math in high school and college and always envied those who found these higher math subjects easy. My statistics grade in college blew my summa cum laude status for graduation. I salvaged cum laude with my B in Research Methods however. I have to thank this teacher for having really good lesson plans, and having anticipated this absence due to a conference. She had prepared the students for the assignments with prior notes. I have found, however, that it is just best to admit to the students straight up that I am not a math person. They actually appreciate your not trying to fake your way through helping them. One student even said it was nice to not have a teacher try to do just this. "The last guy that did that made an a** out of himself", this student told me. I couldn't help but chuckle. Tomorrow I have misc. Computer Science classes. This teacher found me today and filled me in. It should be a good day. It was also nice to see some of the other teachers and hear them say, "Oh good, you're back. I'm requesting you when I need to be gone!" I got that from three teachers today. Yea, I may be bragging a bit, but I have really worked hard to earn this reputation and I'm going to enjoy it. It's really nice to feel wanted!
