A couple of weeks ago I got another jury summons in the mail. For the last 10 years or so, it seems I get one every year. Only one time did I call in and not have to report. Every other time, I have to report, I go through the "Voir Dire" process of attorney interviewing and judge instructions, and each time I am one of the last to be eliminated. Unlike some folks, however, I actually enjoy participating in this legal process. After spending 4 years in college studying criminal procedure, this annual refresher is nice. I usually end up being eliminated due to the fact that I am a friend or acquantaince with quite a few police officers, sheriff's deputies, attorneys, and court service officers in town. Unfortunately, last year I knew one of the victims who was a student I have taught in the schools. I just figure the prosecution sees me as a dream juror, while the defense always sees the opposite for their case. That's OK. I still enjoy the process, and we'll see on Tuesday if I have to report and go through this all again.
