Last month our pastor of nearly 8 years informed our congregation that he had accepted a new call in Oahu, Hawaii. Gee, big decision there! It's a good fit for him. He is a 47 year old single guy, who still thinks he is 30. He is not only young looking, but young at heart. He has a very laid back demeanor about him, almost too laid back for some of our members. He should do well there. This also means we will begin the call process for a new pastor. We have a lot more to offer a new pastor than we did 8 years ago. We have a brand new 3 million dollar sanctuary and fellowship hall addition complete with pipe organ in the fastests growing part of the city. We are located on a main thoroughfare nearby to several new housing developments. Yesterday, my husband was asked to serve on the call committee. He was a little taken back at this prospect. He likes the idea of having a say on who our next pastor is, but he is somewhat hesitant. As with any growing process, our church has had some growing pains, and we have felt some of this. We are not happy how some things are and have been done with this new addition and with any organization, we sometimes feel like the real "power" lies with only a few families. They always seem to push through their own agendas. He hasn't given his answer yet, but I think he is leaning towards being on this committee. He wants to be sure a new pastor will be a good fit to transition us into this new avenue of ministry that our current pastor started. Most importantly, he or she must be their own person, and make the needs of this "entire" congregation and community first.
