The old classic song from the 40's is "Baby it's cold outside" but around here it is Hot, Hot, Hot. We have been chilling out in the house in the A/C for the last couple of weeks. The heat should last a couple of more weeks, if history for this part of the country holds true. Today we finally decided to water the trees. We have 8 trees on our property so this takes awhile. We have a really cool root feeder that expedites this. Also today, we said goodbye to our pastor of 8 years. The sanctuary looked like an Easter Sunday. There wasn't any open spaces on the pews, and we used every last table in the building for the potluck dinner. We all got a lesson in native Hawaiian language and enjoyed some skits from the youth in grass skirts and sunglasses. He is going to Kailua, Hawaii to serve a call at a Lutheran church there. He came here fresh out of seminary 8 years ago and he baptized our son and assisted with the funeral for my grandfather. He helped us move out of our old house, and two weeks later into our new house. He has stood vigil with us many times while my grandfather was dying and my mother was near death. He sat and prayed with us before I gave birth to our son and was there when he was born. I learned much from him in the 5 years I served on the church council, and I hope he learned from us. Serving a call in a place like Hawaii is a perfect fit for this laid back, hang loose, kinda guy. He should serve well. We will miss him, however, we look forward to the call process as we search for our new pastor and prepare to move into our new sanctuary. To Pastor K, "Mahalo and Aloha!", translation, thankyou and goodbye.
