Trying to Pack!?!

This morning, I went downstairs to our daughters room to start packing her for the cruise. She is the last one needing to pack. The first thing I saw was wide open, nearly empty dresser drawers, then the wide open nearly empty closet. She has been responsible for putting her own clothes away after being laundered for some time now. Lately it seems, it is just too much trouble to put them away "properly". She has been warned multiple times, and suffered restrictions of activities and contact with friends over this. It seems her answer is to just shove everything under her bed. I started to drag everything out and the above picture is the result. She is always complaining she doesn't have socks, well, she does now! I found shorts and tops still with the tags! This after she conned her dad into buying her more clothes this last weekend when they were in Wichita. If anyone has any advice on how to deal with this, please respond on the blog or e-mail or call me. Right now, she cannot have any contact with friends until after our trip, and all of her "toys" have been taken away. No Nintendo DS, IPod, or computer. I just don't know what it is going to take to get through to her.

I know it has to be frustrating. But don't be too hard on her. Remember she is a pre-teen girl - and her grades are good and she excels at everything else. Being neat just isn't her forte. The more you push, the harder she'll push back. Develop a plan with her and create daily tasks she must finish in her room so it's not so overwhelming. She'll get there.

remember how it was when you were growing up. we helped each other with the house work and helped each other with the laundry and foldig and putting away and keeping your room clean. she is too young to be responsible for keeping her room clean, help with the house chores and all the activities you have her in plus making time for her family and friends.

Funny.....her first cousin has the same problem but she just wads up her clothes and doesn't care. She doesn't even TRY to hide the fact. Must run in the family, lol!

Pats...I end up putting her clothes away...with her helping me. I figure she'll get it eventually or when she's grown she'll just look all wrinkled all the time. Poor Karissa...she looks so befuddled in that picture.

Alot of people ask about our garden railroad. He it is. It is actually quite a bit more mature than what you see here. This was July 4, 2006.
