We got back a few hours ago from our Thanksgiving trip to Denver. Overall, a successful trip. We got to do some pretty cool stuff and see some family. Back in September, my husbands father moved in to a memory care unit at an assisted living facility. He hasn't seen his Dad since August and me and the kids haven't seen him since last Christmas. In this sad case, time really has been the enemy. My father-in-law is going down hill, so to speak, very quickly. He has gotten pretty good at playing along, but it was pretty obvious he knew the kids were his grandkids, but I never heard him call them by name. He did go out to lunch with us on Wednesday and he came over for Thanksgiving, but he wasn't up to going out to the Colorado Railroad Museum for a special "Goosefest" event which he would have jumped at the chance only a year ago. On a positive note, the kids got to go indoor skydiving again, we took the "short" tour of the Coors brewery straight to the gift shop and free beer, and we took a drive into the mountains. "My batteries are recharged", S said as he maneuvered the van over the tight canyon curves. Yesterday, we woke up to a nice blanket of fresh snow, which made for a picturesque ending to our trip. The family and fun was second to none. The kids all got along great. The adults all got along great. We probably won't make it back out until March, but we can already hear the mountains calling!
