When we decided to send E to private school, one of the things that came with it are school uniforms. No more trying to decide and fighting over what to wear everyday. No more buying all of the "in style" clothes in the attempt to fit in. Everyone wears the same thing, with only a few optional variations. This is all great except for two incidents in the last two school days!
1. On Friday, E got in the van after school sans his new V-neck sweater I just got from the uniform supply store the day before. He was upset because another student told him that his sweater wasn't following the rules, so he took it off and put it in his backpack for most of the day. I called the school and asked them about this, and they told me the sweater was fine, but that student probably told him otherwise because very few students wear the optional sweater. Most wear the logoed sweatshirts. "She probably just thought it wasn't right because she's never seen any kids wear them", they told me. "You might want to have his teacher clear that up with her for future reference!" I told them.
2. This morning, we couldn't find either one of his belts. We searched the house high and low, supposedly. Usually not a problem, but they are required to have belts. In a desperate measure, we had him wear his Boyscout belt. Sure enough, I walked into K's bathroom within 15 minutes of getting home from taking them to school, and there was one on the floor. She said she looked everywhere in the basement. "YEA, RIGHT!"
In summary, I love the idea of uniforms, but it can be a real pain too!
