K went skating last night again. This time until 11:30 p.m. since it was Friday night and there was a special sock hop after skating. I fell asleep on the couch around the 9 o'clock hour as usual. S stayed up to watch a movie. As I was heading to bed around 10:30 p.m., S said, "I don't think I can go to bed until K is home." She had made arrangements to have a friends parent bring her home, so we didn't have to head out to pick her up. I convinced S to come to bed, and sure enough at 11:40 p.m., our door swings open, "Mom, I'm home!". Yes, I was asleep, and yes, this scared the cr** out of me! "OK, honey, thanks for telling us, now go to bed!"
Back when I was in high school, I was a Police Cadet with the Salina Police Department. When most kids were out running around, partying, hanging with friends, I was riding shotgun with police officers. I was witness to alot of stuff. Here is just a taste:
Finding and recovering a dead body.
Search and location of a DUI suspect as he fled into a field
Taking control of bars during bar fights.
Finding local buildings unlocked and having to search them in the middle of the night.
Talking down, and or wrestling down suspects high on drugs.
Having a rottweiler attack the patrol car as I sat in it alone. The officer I was with was on the front porch of a house. (This rottweiler belonged to a man now in prison for murder).
Taking control of domestic disturbances, which are the most dangerous of all of the above!
I was out doing all of this and somehow, my parents managed to sleep. Being a parent now, I'm not sure how they did it. "Mom, Dad, I'm home". I do remember doing this too.
On the road again....
