Tomorrow, the kids will be attending school for the final day of their 6th and 2nd grade years. This was a turning point for both of them. Karissa completed her first year of middle school with flying colors. She has a good chance for straight "A's" again for the 3rd time this year. She was honored last week for being on the Principal's Honor Roll for maintaining a 3.75 to 4.00 GPA. Eric will finish his first year at St. Mary's and it has been an overall success. Although he still has his moments, those moments are becoming fewer. Now if we could only get him to require directives once instead of 3 times, we'd be in good shape. This summer, they will both be taking tennis and golf lessons and will also stay active with Cub Scouts, and Karissa will be working on some volleyball conditioning. We have a busy summer planned with academic enrichment too. Both will be seeing tutors to build on their previous year and to get them ready for next year. We just believe that nearly 3 months is way too long to be completely void of academic enrichment, so this way, they will continue to stay in the habit of taking school seriously. Karissa actually asked to continue summer instruction, telling me, "I don't want math to be hard. If I don't stay on it, I'll forget everything from this year!" Pretty mature assessment if you ask me! Next week we leave for vacation in Alaska. We are really excited to get away. Hopefully we will all come back refreshed, and ready for the summer.
