This past weekend, our entire family ventured to Lawrence, Kansas for my cousin Sarah's much anticipated wedding. She is the oldest of my uncles two daughters. It was a beautiful wedding, and pulled off flawlessly thanks to the guidance of my sister, who was the default "wedding coordinator". This was a formal wedding with most of the expected bells and whistles. The reception site was a country club nestled in the woods on a golf course. As we went through the night, we partied, some a little too much, and had a good time. There were some glitches, but were handled. I did observe my Uncle being a little more reserved than usual, thanks to him contemplating the cost of it all. I heard that he enjoyed the alcohol more than usual and took up smoking a cigar, so not him. I have been joking with Karissa for over a year now that when she wants to get married, we'll just take her and her fiance' and Eric to Jamaica or the Bahamas for a simple wedding and have an equally simple reception when we get back. On the way home yesterday, she told us that we don't even have to do that. "Mom, remember that wedding we went to in Lyons a couple of years back when the guys wore cargo shorts and polos and the girls wore sundresses and they had the butterflies" (My husband cousin's wedding). I want to do that. That was so cool. I thought it was kinda weird at the time, but it was neat. What do you say to this? "Sounds good to me!", exclaimed Steve! Our kids are pretty down to earth. They are equally comfortable at an outdoor country music festival as well as a formal Country Club dinner, but in their hearts, they are more country music festival than formal dinner! We all love a good formal event, but in the end, I have a feeling our kids are going to be the bare foot on the sand in sunglasses versus tuxedos and candles. Hey, I did the formal wedding, my parents, did it, my sister, all of my husbands siblings and kids, maybe it's time to break the precedent. I guess we'll see.
