On Sunday we returned from a 4 day mini vacation to Denver where we took in the National Garden Railway Convention. We were 4 of the 9 members from the Wichita Area Garden Railway Association to attend. We spent a day and a half touring Denver area garden railways and enjoyed one of those days with Steve's dad Jim. Jim doesn't get out much since he is in an Alzheimer's unit now. So, when we took him out to visit railways and for a picnic lunch in a park, he enjoyed himself so much he didn't need pain medication the entire day! While we were in Denver, we found out that the NHRA Mopar MileHigh National drag races were at Bandimere. Oh, we HAD to go! I love drag racing. Our kids love John and Ashley Force and their funny cars. They had only seen them on TV, so for them to see them in person was unbelievable. The look on Eric's face as those first two Top Fuel dragsters sped down the 1/4 mile track in 4 seconds was priceless. The engines, the fire, the vibrations put a reaction on his face and body like he'd seen a ghost, but in a good way. We topped that day off by driving through the canyon to Evergreen for Beau Jo's pizza outside on the patio overlooking a mountain stream. It doesn't get any better than that!
