Yesterday into today, Eric and I completed our first Cub Scout overnight Campout. It was quite something. We arrived around 9:15 yesterday morning to set up. We have a brand new tent that was still in the box. I have never erected a REAL tent before. I've put up a few play tents, but not like this. Thankfully, another Dad took pity on me and walked me through it. We were expecting bad weather all weekend long, so we made sure everything was staked down and the storm shield was on tight. Thank goodness, because we had 40 plus mile an hour winds last night! Throughout the day, Eric got to learn how to read maps and a compass, play Ultimate Frisbie, shoot BB guns and bow and arrows, and how to make Dutch Oven pizza on a camp fire. We ended the night with a campfire service and we witnessed an "Order of the Arrow" tagging ceremony by the "Order of the Arrow" Indian dancers around a bonfire. We had a great time, even though we didn't get much sleep. I'm sure this is only the first of many campouts.
