Random tidbits

I was tagged and recently posted a 25 random things about me on my facebook. I decided for those not on facebook but follow my blog to do it here too. Eventhough many of my family and friends follow my blog, many of you might not know some of these things.

1. My husband was the student teacher in my music class when I was in 6th grade.
2. We didn't know this connection until after we were engaged.
3. My Grandfather used to repair his Grandfather's lawn equipment.
4. My husband did ask for my parents blessing before asking to marry me.
5. He is the one and only man I have "been" with.
6. My daughter and I nearly died while I labored and gave birth to her.
7. I am a staunch advocate for C-Section and hospital births with a doctor. I am convinced that homebirth/fad birth procedures are risky and a selfish endeavor on the part of the parents.
8. My daughter was named after one of my husband's favorite students from his teaching days.
9. Her middle name "DeLynn" is after one of the characters from the TV show Babylon 5.
10. I bottle fed both of my kids after unsuccessfully trying to nurse. Nursing "ISN'T" for everyone!
11. I have had had a gun pointed at me, thankfully he threw it down when he realized how stupid it was. (My police cadet days)
12. I have also wrestled down a drug high suspect, (again police cadet days)
13. My husband and I (and the kids) travel as much as we do because we have watched my parents and his father "wait until retirement" only to have their health fail and not get to see and do the things they planned.
14. The single most moving experience in my life was standing in the signing room of Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
15. I swear I also heard and felt spirits when visiting Gettysburg.
16. We often focus our travel to historical places. My kids have studied in school, places we have visited.
17. The single place I would give up all to see is Normandy, France.
18. I have stood in the box where President Lincoln was when he was shot.
19. I worked a security detail for Vice President Quayle when he visited Salina.
20. I have shaken hands with George H.W. Bush, met Corbin Bersen, George Brett, saw Ronald Reagan, and met with Jerry Moran in his office in Washington D.C.
21. I am a life long "Star Trek" fan.
22. I detest Rap and heavy metal music. I swear it is the voice of the devil.
23. The only kind of dog I will ever own will be a type of scent hound.
24. I harbor a desire to get my hunting license and deer hunt.
25. I pray nearly every night that my son gets to see a whale on our upcoming trip to Alaska.
26. I also pray that my daughter finds some sort of balance with the pressures of teen "social activities" and her faith.
27. I "will interfere" if I deem she is dating a young man I deem not worthy or respectful of my daughter.
28. I still cry every time I hear the songs, "Stealing Cinderella", "I loved her first", and "Watching You". Yes they are all country songs, and they all touch my heart.
29. I absolutely loved the experience of designing and supervising the construction of our home. Yes, I know how lucky we are.
30. I have been married for nearly 15 years and I "still" love my husband.
31. I sacrificed my career to stay home and raise my kids. Although I harbor some regrets, I am sure it was worth it.
32. If there is one regret, I wish I had changed my major to History and become a Social Studies teacher. I thought about my Sophomore year of college, but didn't have the courage.
33. I substitute teach full time now, and am pretty good at it.
34. I detest peanut butter.
35. I believe in teaching children responsible drinking, versus total abstinence. No I don't let them drink now, and I do preach to wait until your are 21. But when they turn 21, I hope to have that first "beer or glass of wine" with them.
36. I believe in teaching my children sexual abstinence also. I am realistic and don't expect them to wait until marriage, but I do expect them to wait until they are in a lifelong committed relationship.
37. I hope to someday take a ride in a NASCAR around a track at 165 mph.
38. Gambling makes my stomach queezy.
39. Despite #38, I enjoy trips to Vegas every few years.
40. I still can't believe I taught Chemistry for 3 months last year, and did it competently.
