As most of you know, we went on a cruise to Alaska in May. It was a wonderful trip, with the exception of the 10 hours or so we spent in shere panic as Steve was treated on the ship and at the hospital in Ketchikan, Alaska for chest pains that ended up being diagnosed as a GERD attack. We were able to get back on the ship and finish our trip, but in the end, this 10 hour trip interruption cost us over $3000.00. We had to pay this up front, but we had the forsight to purchase Travel Guard, travel insurance. This cost us just over $200.00 when we booked the cruise to cover any uncovered medical emergency, lost baggage, family emergency requiring us to go home early, etc. We always get this when we go on big trips where our major medical might not cover. Today, I got the last $1900.00 back from Travel Guard. Since Steve was treated on the ship, which is a foreign registered vessel, our major medical only covered $400.00 of the $2300.00 of the ship board expenses. Travel Guard picked up the difference. They also paid the difference in the expenses at Ketchikan, and paid us for "trip interruption". Bottom line, we are convinced that "Travel Guard" is absolutely essential for any big trip, especially one that includes travel to a foreign country. You can't afford not to have it!
